Dennis D. Barry, Chief Deputy

Chief Dennis D. Barry is a 28-year veteran of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. Chief Barry began his career in 1989 as a Deputy Sheriff assigned to the Court Division. During tenure with Orange County Sheriff’s Office and through Civil Service Examination he has moved up the ranks of Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain and currently serves as Chief.

• Promoted to Sergeant in 1995 and supervised the County Court and Road Divisions.
• Promoted to Lieutenant in 1997 and was responsible for the supervision of 11 Sergeants and 88 Deputies assigned to the Road Division.
• Promoted to Captain in 2000 with oversight responsibilities of all road division activities within the Sheriff’s Office.
• Promoted to Chief in 2014 and currently supervises 115 Civilian and Sworn Members of the Road Division including Civil, Investigations, and Narcotics.

Amongst many other achievements and honors, Chief Barry is a Certified Firearms Instructor, a Certified Glock and Remington Armorer, and served as the Agency’s Public Information Officer for 12 years.
Spearheaded the formation and served as past president of the Superior Officers Association for 4 years.

Serving in multiple assignments in the beginning of his career as a Deputy Sheriff provided him with a broad range of experience in a variety of situations which he has brought forward in his path through the ranks of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.
