Emergency Management


Hazard mitigation describes actions that help reduce or eliminate long term risks associated with natural hazards and disasters. Hazard mitigation activities may occur both before and/or after disasters. These activities are designed to break the cycle of repetitive cycle of damage by reducing a community’s vulnerability to hazardous conditions. This means building safer and smarter communities in Orange County.

The Division of Emergency Management is tasked with coordinating the Orange County Single Jurisdiction Hazard Mitigation Plan. This Hazard Mitigation Plan was designed to reduce the vulnerability of County owned property to a variety of hazards that may occur in this portion of the Hudson Valley.
