The Welfare to Work Employment Unit is a part of the Employment and Training Administration funded by Orange County Department of Social Services to serve families and individuals living in Orange County who have been deemed employable and are receiving public assistance.
Here in Orange County, we are fortunate to be providing these services out of the Orange Works One Stop Career Centers, where employable consumers can benefit from all the wonderful job search related services the centers have to offer.
Who We Serve
Public assistance recipients are referred to our offices by the Orange County Department of Social Services. We host employment services for these eligible consumers in our Orange Works Career Centers in Middletown, Newburgh and Port Jervis.
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Safety Net Assistance (SNA) recipients are mandated to report to employment staff to become engaged in federally mandated participation employment activities.
Some of our programs include work experience, vocational training, GED and ESL training, community service, on the job training and paid work assignments. The Job Readiness Training Program (JRT) is a 4 to 12 week program (depending on needs) providing assessment, job readiness workshops and job search assistance to eligible TANF consumers. Federal employment mandates include participation in an employment activity for 30 - 35 hours per week.
Supportive services are available to eligible consumers including child care, transportation, employment counseling and case management. Orange County vans that provide Job Access Reverse Commute (JARC) transportation services including available runs that take inner city residents to rural parts of the county where jobs would be otherwise unattainable for those without a car.
