Deputy Commissioner of Emergency Services – Division of Emergency Communications

The incumbent is serving in this position under approval pursuant to Section 211 of the Retirement and Social Security Law. In order to determine if there is sufficient basis for a new request for the incumbent, Orange County is conducting a public inquiry as to the availability of qualified non-retired persons for recruitment.
The position involves the responsibility for the effective 24-hour-a-day, 7-days-per-week operation of the county emergency communications center (E-911). The Deputy provides support to the Commissioner by handling the day-to-day issues relative to the operation of the communications center. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Commissioner of Emergency Services, with wide leeway permitted for the exercise of independent judgment in planning programs and developing procedures. The Deputy acts for and in place of the Commissioner of Emergency Services in his absence. Supervision is exercised over a large number of subordinate staff. The Deputy is appointed by and serves at the pleasure of the Commissioner.
Minimum Qualifications: Ten (10) years of supervisory experience in the public safety field.
SALARY RANGE: $66,447 - $108,913 per year
