Deputy Commissioner of Emergency Services – Division of Police Liaison Services

Orange County Department of Emergency Services

The incumbent is serving in this position under approval pursuant to Section 211 of the Retirement and Social Security Law. In order to determine if there is sufficient basis for a new request for the incumbent, Orange County is conducting a public inquiry as to the availability of qualified non-retired persons for recruitment. The position involves the responsibility for establishing and maintaining a cooperative and effective working relationship between the department and the County’s police community. Incumbent administers various programs to enhance public safety and acts as a liaison between government and State and local police agencies, working toward the goal of successful provision of emergency services in the county. The duties require the incumbent to possess a strong knowledge of police administration and a high degree of human relations skills to provide program guidance for services from the County to local agencies and to ensure that cooperation exists and leads to the optimal provision of emergency services to the County's residents. The work is performed under the general direction of the Commissioner of Emergency Services.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:

(A) Graduation from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees with a Bachelor's degree or higher and two (2) years of competitive class service as a Police Chief in a type B or C agency in New York state; OR

(B) Completion of 60 credits from a regionally accredited college or university or one accredited by the New York State Board of Regents to grant degrees and four (4) years of competitive class service as outlined in (A) above.

FINAL CANDIDATE MUST SUBMIT TO A FINGERPRINT CHECK AND CRIMINAL HISTORY AND BACKGROUND INVESTIGATION. COSTS RELATED TO SUCH INVESTIGATION
SHALL BE BORNE BY THE APPLICANT.

SALARY RANGE: $66,447 - $108,913 per year


CIVIL SERVICE EXAMINATION IS A REQUIREMENT FOR PERMANENT APPOINTMENT.
