HEAVY MOTOR EQUIPMENT OPERATOR

HIGHWAY DIVISION


The Orange County Department of Public Works is now accepting applications for two (2) Heavy Motor Equipment Operator positions. The nature of these appointments is temporary substitute. Once the permanent holders attain status in another position, these positions will become permanent (subject to probationary term).

The work involves responsibility for the safe and efficient operation of various types of heavy motor equipment and for a variety of unskilled labor tasks. This class is distinguished from that of Motor Equipment Operator I and II in that there is greater responsibility for operating care and employees must have specific knowledge of the operation of the equipment. The work is performed under general supervision. Supervision may be exercised over the activities of others. Does related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Either:
(A) Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two (2) years of experience that shall have included the operation of heavy motor equipment; OR

(B) Three (3) years of work experience as defined in (A) above.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT: Must possess and maintain a valid Commercial Driver’s License with a “B” Classification (CDL – B).


Civil service examination is not a requirement for appointment.


STARTING SALARY: Orange County employees as per contract;
                                        For new employees: $19.9341 per hour (35 hours/week)
