DA Job Opportunities Group

The District Attorney’s Office seeks applicants for the position of Assistant District Attorney at entry-level and also seeks experienced candidates. Individuals interested in employment, who are entering their final year of law school, should send a cover letter and resume to the District Attorney. Applicants should also arrange to have their certified undergraduate and law school transcripts sent to the District Attorney’s Office. Applications sent by e-mail will not be accepted.  Entry-level job interviews are generally conducted from March through July. Assistant District Attorneys are required to live in Orange County during the period of their employment.

Clerical support personnel are hired from the established Civil Service list for specific positions. These positions include legal secretary, senior clerk, and receptionist. Individuals interested in any of these positions should make arrangements, through the Orange County Department of Personnel, to take the next available Civil Service test.

Investigators working in the District Attorney’s Office are all police officers. The minimum qualification for hiring is at least two years of experience as a police officer and certification by New York State as a police officer.  Minimum qualification for hiring is dependent upon the position.  The District Attorney’s Office employs two Chief Criminal Investigators, four Career Criminal Unit Coordinators, and four Criminal Investigators.

Summer internships are available. Applicants must have completed at least one full year of law school. The positions are not paid. Interested students should apply no later than April of the year in which they seek an internship.

Entry-level applicants begin an interview process commencing after the July Bar Examination.  No job offers are extended until applicants have been notified that they have passed the New York State Bar Examination.  All Assistant District Attorneys are required to live in Orange County during the period of their employment.
